Actually the phonetic reading of the dialogue is one of the pleasures of the movie. It contributes to the overstylized, fantastic tone of the film. And for some reason I thought this film had the best "performance" by Tarantino he's ever given. I liked how his brand of acting (i.e. bad) actually suited a movie like this.

I guess I missed that episode. Maybe I need to give SWD another try. I just remember thinking it was a bad choice to film it in English considering most of the cast could not speak English very well. Wow, that really came off as racist, my bad. I love 'Audition' and 'Ichi the killer', so I think my expectations might have been too high. I also felt like Tarantino was hamming it up a bit too much, even by Tarantino standards.

Randy, I reviewed Sukiyaki Western Django on my last appearance on the podcast. I saw the film in the theater and actually kind of loved it. I thought it was one of Takashi Miike's best films. However, if you don't really follow Miike's career then that last sentence means nothing to you and you were expecting a whole different kind of movie. I bought it on Blu-Ray and I look forward to watching it again.

See, now that's the kind of talkback I expect from our listeners! Especially such great comments like "..yeah, Taber's right."

A side note on Trick R' Treat: while it was the general consensus that WB was probably afraid to release the movie because it had dead kids, I saw Clint Eastwood's Changeling this weekend, a Universal picture mind you, and there is more disturbing kid killing in that film than anything in Trick R' Treat.

I finally got around to checking out the podcast and gotta say, good work guys! A damn fun listen.

And as one of the friends who Taber got into the Trick R Treat screening, he'd dead on about it. That movie is a perfect throwback to great 80's horror movies. It's awesome. My only guess why it's being held back from release: kids act like assholes and get killed. And it's actual 12-year-olds playing 12-year-olds, not 24-year-olds as 12-year-olds. So while I consider killing kids a good thing in horror flicks, my guess is that issue has Warner Bros a bit scared.

But yeah, Taber's right. It's awesome. Thanks again Taber for getting me into the screening! He's also right on about The Wrestler, Role Models, and Synecdoche, NY.

@Marshall: I don't think you don't watch movies, and I have no idea why anyone would think you're a canary. You're more like a jaybird. Or a pipsquak.

@Henrik: It does sound interesting, but I can't believe I'm saying that about a movie about wrasslin'.

@Terri: Hi! I can't believe you made the effort!

@Will: shush, there are no bad fans just bad shows.

@Noel: hahaha, yeh I gotta learn not to talk when I have no idea what I'm talking about.

@Mohaski: thanks for the note, I wondered if they would keep adapting existing work. I need to get around to reading the books, I've heard they were great.

cheers,
crank!

Just a quick, insignificant note - Quantum of Solace is based on a short story by Ian Fleming, from the collection "For Your Eyes Only"...

Keep up the good work, guys...
