RE: China Mieville
His most popular work are the Bas-Lag books, they consist of
Perdido Street Station
The Scar
Iron Council
They all take place in the same world, they are loosely connected so you can read them in any order if you want, but you would probably enjoy them more in the above order.
His latest book is Embassytown, a science fiction novel but with a dash of Weird that Mieville is known for, and outside of Perdido Street Station, probably my favourite Mieville novel.
He wrote a crime novel called The City & the City, it is his most down to earth book with very little fantasy, but still really good.
Un Lun Dun is a Young Adult fantasy novel, very much like things Neil Gaiman writes, i like it, but it written for a different audience than his other books so would only recommend it to people who like his other work.
Kraken is (in my opinion) his weakest work, an Urban fantasy with a lot of humor in the writing, probably the book that divides fans the most.
To summarise, i love China Mieville, as a fan of Fantasy and Science Fiction i was completely blown away the first time i read one of his books and i would strongly recommend starting with Perdido Street Station

Thanks for that.
I really didn’t know where to begin.
