Crankcast Episode 52 – 100406

It's the end of the world as we know it.It went out, not with a bang, but with a whimper … and some moans … and a Tiki Bar.

This week on a completely anti-climactic anniversary episode of the Crankcast … 52 has come and gone and we tell you why you didn't really miss anything.   Taber rejoins us to share what he's learned over the past 52 weeks and finally, we read some warm words from you all. Thanks for a fun year.

You know, I had that movie trailers conversation with my friend last week. He’d just returned from Japan and was excited because we were going to see Little Miss Sunshine and he had absolutely no idea what it was about. He didn’t even know Steve Carrell was in it until the movie started. I think I heard somewhere a long time ago (or maybe in my film class, or maybe I’m making it up) that in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s the focus of the trailer were the stars of the movie, because the movie itself was secondary to just watching Clark Gable or whoever. Obviously that’s not the case anymore because the prospect of seeing Julia Roberts or Matt Damon is not reason enough, in-and-of-itself, for people to go see a movie these days. If you think about all the money studios waste with advertising, you’d think they’d be able to come up with something a little more creative than just showing you the best parts of the movie in 30-to-90 second montages.
